Cavoodle Breed Information

The Cavoodle is an adorable and much-loved cross between a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

The Cavalier is an incredibly loving and affectionate dog, originally bred as a pet from a line of hunting dogs. They’re incredibly sweet and affectionate and are well known for their puppy-dog eyes. They stand at about 30cm tall, and they weigh 6-8 kg.

The poodles are remarkably intelligent and curly-coated dogs that originated in Germany (not France!), where their coat lends itself to protection for water retrieval. Their name originates from the German word ‘Pudeln’, which means to play about in puddles. Their curly coat grows long and shaggy when unkempt because of their very low-shedding nature.

Personality-wise, poodles are regal but loving and incredibly loyal. Poodle coat colour can have almost endless variation. Toy poodles are typically 25cm and 4kg. Miniature poodles are slightly bigger, standing at up to 38cm tall and weighing up to 8 kg. Standard poodles are much bigger, standing at up to 60cm tall and weighing up to 30 kg.

Cavoodles themselves are super loving and affectionate, as well as being clever and engaged. They are wonderful with other dogs and are very social, they can be quite active but they’re just as happy to be curled up on the couch or stretched out on the floor.

Suitability

Cavoodles can happily make their home in almost any household because they’re so easy-going, cute, and cuddly. They make excellent family pets and are happy to be involved in any family activities. Like any dog, they need walks and exercise, but they are quite happy in a small living space presuming that they get this much-wanted exercise.

Coat

At Designer K9, we’ve bred different coloured Cavoodles puppies for sale. Typically ranging within red, golden and black with white accents on any of these coats. Coat colour often fades over their lifetime. Due to the low-shedding nature of the poodle coat, Cavoodles are typically very low-shedding, particularly in comparison to other straight-coated breeds. The curl of their coat varies depending on the pup, with some dogs having a much curlier coat than others. Due to their low-shedding coat, they need regular grooming to keep this in check. Our Cavoodles are all First-Generation, and through our knowledge and experience, we are able to help guide you as to which puppy would suit your needs and/or preferences.

Toy Cavoodles, which are a cross between a Toy Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, are small dogs standing approximately 28cm to 35cm in height at the shoulder and weighing 5-8kg as adults.

Miniature Cavoodles have a Miniature Poodle parent and are a bit bigger, approximately 30cm to 45cm in height at the shoulder, and they weigh 7-12kg as adults.

Standard Cavoodles (which are a cross between a standard poodle and a Cavalier) are bigger again, mirroring the height of the standard poodle. They’re approximately 35cm and above in height at the shoulder and weigh 10-14kg as adults.
